Bell Technician Entry Into Customer Premises

Finally.

I can't imagine many of you haven't had a conversation with a colleague, manager, customer or loved one questioning when Bell Canada would fall in line with most other communications providers across North America and restrict the entry of technicians into customers premises.

After much urging from the National Union, both Bell and BTS H&S and LRC committees, as well as Local Union leadership, Bell has done just that.

Sort of;

You see, much like everything they do, they've passed the buck on to you. They've told you that you don't have to go inside. They've told you that you can do the job from the safety of your vehicle, the safety of a customer’s porch or garage; whatever YOU are comfortable with.  They’ve made this your decision instead of putting your health and safety ahead of the customers needs.

They've done this knowing that many will feel the pressure to get the complete, not inconvenience a customer or maybe just to avoid that call to your boss for guidance and advice. In short, they know that many of us will operate almost like normal.

But this is your safety on the line here, not theirs. This could be your life or a loved one’s life, and for what? temporarily inconveniencing a customer during a pandemic?

This is what we have been waiting for. This is what we have been working towards. This is what is right.

Exercise good judgment in the days and weeks ahead and stay safe. Remain outside and don't enter that front door. Follow the process.

The customer can wait. Most want to wait! They will understand.
